Charles Rowan was the leading tenor with the D'Oyly Carte touring company during the first provincial tours of both Princess Ida (Cyril) and The Mikado (Nanki-Poo). He does not appear to have continued with the company, either in London or the provinces, perhaps because of the continuing presence of two excellent tenors in Durward Lely and Courtice Pounds..
