Gary Coward studied in London at the Royal College of Music, then the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

He appeared with several of the leading British companies, including English National Opera, Scottish Opera, Kent Opera, English Touring and Court Opera. With Pavilion Opera his parts ranged from Mozart (Guglielmo) and Donizetti (Enrico Ashton) to Verdi (Rigoletto, Germont), Puccini (Scarpia) and Lehár (Danilo).
