Edouard-Victor-Antoine Lalo.

Born Lille, 27 January 1823.

Died Paris, 22 April 1892.

French composer.

Lalo is nowadays remembered primarily for a violin concerto, known as the Symphonie Espagnole, and for an equally melodious cello concerto. These reflect his initial training as a string player at both the Lille and Paris conservatoires. The only opera that was performed in his lifetime is full of attractive music, of which Mylio's Aubade is perhaps the most famous, and was recorded by a number of the great tenors of the past.

Operas performed in Scotland are shown in bold:

1   Fiesque (1866, unperf) (Beauquier)

2   Le roi d'Ys (1875, Paris 1888) (Blau)

3   La Jacquerie (1891 unfin) ()
