Jan Mieczyslaw.

Born Warsaw, 14 January 1850.

Died Nice, 3 April 1925.

Polish tenor.

Jean de Reszke is generally regarded as one of the greatest operatic tenors ever. Similarly his younger brother, Edouard (1853-1917) was one of the greatest basses.

Like many notable tenors, he began his operatic career as a baritone. Having studied in Milan and made his debut at Turin in 1874, he initially used an Italianate professional name, Giovanni  De Reschi. It was in that guise that he made his first Scottish appearance a few months later.
