Joshua Ellicott studied music at the University of York, continuing his training in London at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. While a very versatile performer he specialises in such baroque composers as Monteverdi, Bach and Handel, especially the Evangelist in Bach's Passions.
He made his debut in 2006. Appearances in Scotland began in 2007 with English Touring Opera (Pedrillo Seraglio). He sang Messiah in Dundee the same year, eventually repeating the part in 2025 with the Dunedin Consort.
He has worked with Opera North (Richard Ruddigore).
He has performed concerts with most of the major Scottish institutions, including Scottish Chamber Orchestra (Zadok Solomon) and Royal Scottish National Orchestra (Beethoven's 9th).
Appearances with British vocal organisations include The Sixteen, The King's Singers, The English Concert, The Gabrieli Consort. Orchestras include the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Philharmonia, BBC Symphony, BBC Concert, Hallé, Ulster Orchestra.
European orchestras include Brabant Symphony, Concentus Musicus Wien, Dublin RTE, Radio France, Swedish Radio, Trondheim Symphony, Wroclaw Baroque, Zurich Chamber.
