Walter Wheatley clearly had a powerful voice and is generally described as a good actor. He spent the years of the late Edwardian period singing major principal roles with Carl Rosa.
These included Balfe (Thaddeus); Wallace (Don Caesar); Wagner (Lohengrin); Verdi (Manrico, Don Alvaro); Gounod (Faust); Thomas (Wilhelm Meister); Goldmark (Assad); Bizet (Don José); Mascagni (Turiddu); Goring Thomas (Phoebus).
