Gatty was the composer of four operas, using libretti by one or other of his brothers, or by himself. Greysteel, based on the Icelandic Saga of Gisli, was much admired at the time, being expanded for a 1938 production at Sadler's Wells. His adaptation of The Tempest was revived at the Old Vic a few months after its premiere. None of his work has been revived since his death.
