Felix Bessonov began working in theatre as a lighting technician in 1966. He later studied artistic and technical aspects of theatre in Moscow at the Higher Theatrical Academy attached to the Moscow Arts Theatre. He was appointed to the Chisinau National Opera and Ballet Theatre as Technical Director in 1975.

From 1985 -87 he worked regularly in Vietnam, providing technical assistance to the Hanoi Theatre of Opera and Ballet. He has also toured to Italy, Spain, Belgium, Holland, France, Hungary and Romania. From 1996 he worked frequently in the UK and Ireland for Opera and Ballet International.
