Fletcher Perry Suggest updates

English baritone.

Fletcher Perry spent most of his career as a music teacher based in Dundee, singing leading baritone roles with local amateur groups.  His 'day job' was that of customs officer at Dundee harbour.

His brother,  John Perry, did have an extensive professional career between the wars, singing leading tenor roles such as Lohengrin and Manrico with the Carl Rosa and O'Mara companies.

 

Fletcher Perry's son Walter was educated at the High School of Dundee, before studying medicine at St Andrews Unioversity.  He became Professor  of Pharmacology then Dean of Medicine at Edinburgh University.  He later became vice-principal.   He was one of the founders, and first vice-chancellor of the Open University.  He was awarded OBE in 1957 and knighted in 1974.  Awarded a life peerage in 1979 he entered the House of Lords as Baron Perry of Walton, after Walton Hall, the Milton Keynes headquarters of the OU.  He died in 2003.
