Leicester Tunks spent an extensive period with the D'Oyly Carte organization, He began as a soloist playing several short parts. However he developed as a principal, frequently returning to the same works in more important roles. Thus the part of Pish-Tush was followed by the Mikado himself; Sir Richard by Sergeant Meryll; and Luiz by Giuseppe Palmieri.
