Terry Jenkins Suggest updates

Born Hertfordshire, 9 October 1941.

English tenor.

Terry Jenkins sang in the Westminster Abbey Choir and studied engineering at London University before traiing at the Guildhall and London Opera Centre.

After several seasons at Glyndebourne (including the tour) he joined SWO/ENO, where roles included Mozart (Pedrillo), Puccini (Goro), Janáček (Vanya Kátya Kabanová) and Szymanowski (Edrisi King Roger). He created Brother Marcos in The Royal Hunt of the Sun (Hamilton 1977).  With an excellent sense of comic timing and ear for dialogue, he was particularly successful in operetta, including Offenbach (Orpheus, Gardefeu La vie parisienne); Strauss (Eisenstein, Caramello A Night in Venice); and Sullivan (Dunstable Patience, Tolloller Iolanthe).  In an open-air production of The Yeomen of the Guard in the Tower of London moat (1978) he sang Colonel Fairfax.

At the Royal Opera in 1976 he created roles of Officer and Victim in Henze's We Come to the River.

His only appearances in Scotland were early in his career, at Ledlanet Nights (Kinross) in 1970 and the first Scottish visit by the Glyndebourne Tour in 1971.
