Scottish Opera debut
William Lacey was born in London. From 1998 to 2001 he was Staff Conductor at San Francisco Opera and from 2010 to 2013 Erster (koordinierter) Kapellmeister at Oper Leipzig. during which time he conducted the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra in more than 100 performances. He has given regular performances with Placido Domingo, including Tamerlano in Barcelona, Washington and Los Angeles, and Iphigenie en Tauride in Washington. In 2012 he conducted the world premiere of Jonathan Dove's Life is a Dream for Birmingham Opera Company, and the first Moscow performances since 1965 of Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream. for which he was nominated for a Golden Mask for best conductor. He has appeared across North America with the opera companies of, among others, Houston, Santa Fe, New York City and Glimmerglass, and throughout Europe, including with Opera Comique Paris, Royal Opera Stockholm, Norwegian National Opera, English National Opera and Opera North. He is also in demand as a concert conductor, including. in the UK, with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Ulster Orchestra.
Other operatic engagements include: Le nozze di Figaro (Bolshoi Moscow); Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail (Garsington); Curlew River (Barbican Centre London).
