Maltese tenor.
Nico Darmanin was born in Malta. Training first as a lawyer, he then studied singing in Malta with Gillian Zarnmit before moving to London to complete an MPerf at the Royal College of Music. He furthered his studies at the National Opera Studio. He has also worked in masterclasses with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and Sir Thomas Alien at the Georg Solti Accademia di Bel Canto, with Mirella Freni as part of the CUBEC Accademia di Belcanto in Modena, with Joyce DiDonato at the Royal Opera House and with Juan Diego Flórez in Pesaro. He is a recent Samling scholar.
Operatic engagements in Britain include: Royal Opera (Oanieli Les Vêpres siciliennes, Apparition of a Youth Die Frau ohne Schatten); Opera Holland Park (Almaviva, Don Ramiro); Scottish Opera (Don Ramiro), Welsh National (Almaviva); Dorset Opera (Comte Ory).
Other appearances are Opera Vlaanderen, Antwerp (Italian Tenor Der Rosenkavalier, Don Ottavio); Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg (Italian Tenor); Dubrovnik Arts Festival (Ferrando); Nederlandse Reisopera (Don Ottavio).
Festival work includes the Rossini Opera Festival, Pesaro (Belfiore/Zefirino/Gelsomino Il viaggio a Reims); Wexford Festival (Baron de Mergy Le Pré aux Clercs).
