John Molloy studied at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama in Dublin, then in Manchester at the Royal Northern College of Music, receiving the college's highest accolade for performance, the PPRNCM Diploma. He completed his studies at the National Opera Studio in London.

Operatic engagements include:

In Ireland: Opera Northern Ireland (Angelotti, Luka The Bear, Dulcamara, Banquo). Opera Theatre Company, Dublin (Figaro Le nozze di Figaro, Leporello, Trinity Moses Mahagonny).  Wexford Festival (Commandeur de Beaupré La Cour de Célimène by Thomas).

In the UK: ENO (Masetto), Royal Opera (Guccio Gianni Schicchi), Opera Holland Park (Raimondo Lucia di Lammermoor);  Scottish Opera (Alidoro).

On the continent: Nationale Reisopera Netherlands (Arthur The Lighthouse, Figaro Le nozze di Figaro).
