French soprano.
Jeanne Castellan trained at the Paris Conservatoire, graduating in 1836. One of the major roles she created, in 1849 at the Paris Opéra, was Berthe in Meyerbeer's Le Prophète.
Her debut in 1837, as Amina, was at Varese and she then spent several seasons singing in Italy and Austria. She toured to the USA in 1843-4 (New Orleans, Boston and New York), and to St Petersburg 1844-6. Her British debut came in 1844 at a Philharmonic Concert in London. She sang with Lumley's company at Her Majesty's from 1845-7, transferring to Covent Garden 1848-53.
