Maria Gavrilova Suggest updates

Born Chelyabinsk, South Urals.

Russian soprano.

Maria Gavrilova trained initially under her father, Professor German Gavrilov.  From 1986 she studied at the Tchaikovsky State Conservatoire in Moscow, under Irina Maslennikova.  In 1990 she joined the Bolshoi Opera, making her debut as Oksana Christmas Eve, conducted by Alexander Lazarev.

In 1991 the Bolshoi Opera toured to the Metropolitan Opera, New York, and to the Edinburgh International Festival.  At both venues she sang Tatyana Eugene Onegin.  Further tours with the Bolshoi followed to Malta, Japan and Germany.  Roles she has performed include more Tchaikovsky (Agnes Sorel The Maid of Orleans, Yolanta); Rimsky-Korsakov (Mlada); Rachmaninov (Zemfira Aleko); Mozart (Countess); Verdi (Leonora Il trovatore); Leoncavallo (Nedda); Puccini (Mimì).

She also joined the Bolshoi Orchestra on its 1993 concert tour, culminating in a New York concert at Carnegie Hall.
