Filippo Crivelli made his operatic debut in 1958, directing a staging of La bohème at the Teatro Carlo Felice, Genoa. Later directing engagements include Brussels (Monnaie), Munich (Cuvilliés), Buenos Aires (Colón) and Chicago (Lyric Opera). One of his Buenos Aires stagings was of Wolf-Farrari's I quattro rusteghi (1968), while he also directed L'elisir d''amore at the 1969 Bregenz Festival..
He was, in addition, known for his drama productions as well as regular work in television and radio.
