Is July 4th 2011 going to produce the largest audience Scotland has ever seen for a single operatic event? These screenings are a great introduction to opera for all the family. For a trailer, see the Royal Opera website at www.roh.org.uk/whatson/bpbigscreens/index.aspx.
At Duthie Park, Aberdeen and Festival Square, Edinburgh the ROH performance will be received live in HD on a big screen. Arrive early to take up a good position - some thousands may be expected in fair weather to take advantage of the screening, free thanks to BP's support.
The Duthie Park instructions state you are encouraged to bring your own rugs, seats, and picnics- but cans, glassware, barbecues and naked flames are forbidden.
The nationwide 'Humming Chorus' starts at 7pm, and the performance proper at 7.30pm
Act I lasts 55 minutes, then an interval of 25 minutes.
Acts II and III begin at approximately 8.50pm and last 85 minutes.
Curtain down 10.15pm, all timings being approximate.
