The main event on the Mariinsky Opera's 2008 visit to Edinburgh was the local premiere of Szymanowski's King Roger, but this concert introduced Rachmaninov's youthful one-acter in a vivid performance, followed by an even rarer piece, in Prokofiev's Semyon Kotko, sadly only its third act.
