Madame Angot was the first hugely successful French operetta by any of Offenbach's followers, and it was performed regularly for many years in Britain, as well as in France. This was the fifth year during which Emily Soldene had performed the work. Henry Byron was one of the most prolific playwrights of the Victorian era, churning out dozens of successful dramas of various kinds, as well as translations of foreign works. Thecompany's dancer/choreographer Mdlle Sidonie married the conductor Eugène Goossens. Their grand-daughter, the harpist Sidonie Goossens, was named after her.
