Read more about the opera Coffee Cantata

These performances of Bach's charming little comic sketch formed the opening element of a cunningly planned triple bill. It was followed by Britten's canticle Abraham and Isaac. The final item was the welcome revival of a work created by Joseph Horovitz for the Intimate Opera Company, using one of W S Gilbert's Bab Ballads as source material - Gentleman's Island. The opening and closing items gave Ian Wallace two more opportunities to display his comic talents, and the other singers backed him up.

The performance was accompanied by Jonathan Hinden at the harpsichord.
