Ellen Kent's spring 2012 tour was in association with Derek Block and Blackburn International, while the performers were freom the Ukrainian National Opera of Kharkiv. The repertoire consisted of Madama Butterfly, La bohème and La traviata. As usual in an Ellen Kent production, the emphasis was on tradition combined with spectacle, including a colourful carnival scene, street entertainers, gypsy dancers and stage band.
The sets, by the Ukrainian designer Nadezhda Shvets. reflected the art of the period.
