This intermezzo appeared in Edinburgh under the title L'Uccellatrice, or The Female Birdcatcher.
Jommelli was a hugely successful composer at this time, still very much active. Though based at the Court in Stuttgart, he had visited London in 1754. His purely orchestral music was also much admired, and featured in these Edinburgh concerts, along with music by a 'local boy' the Earl of Kelly as well as other Britons.
During the Edinburgh visit, the Gurrini ensemble also performed La serva padrona and Livietta e Tracollo, both well known works by Pergolesi, and a now forgotten intermezzo Il Giocatore, or The Gamester, by a Genoese composer by the name of Carbonini. A well known work by Rinaldo di Capua, La Zingara, was performed on the York section of the tour, under the title The Fortune Teller. It may well have been staged previously in Edinburgh.
