The Opera Bohemia spring tour featured five more performances of their much-admired production which opened at last year's Edinburgh fringe. Six of the seven principals returned from last year, and while there were now only two backup singers (Louise Kemeny and Nicholas Cowie) the vital ensembles still came across powerfully. The effectiveness of the accompaniment was a constant surprise, with the beautiful violin playing of Amira Bedrush-McDonald constantly creating atmosphere - and even effecting a sound akin to the eerie glass-harmonica originally specified for the mad scene. Suzanne Shakespeare's interpretation of the title role is most impressive.
