In 1931, Edinburgh Grand scored a solid success in staging the Scottish première of Massenet's Hérodiade.
Now the chosen follow-up was a British première. To boost income, it alternated with the rather more popular French work, Carmen.
The guiding hands at Edinburgh Grand at this time were the former lead baritone and soprano from Carl Rosa, Hebden Foster and his wife Beatrice Miranda, who chose to live in Edinburgh during their retirement years. Their daughter appears among the dancers.
