On 7 January, Royal Opera Live offers us a live webcast from 10.30 GMT. To be broadcast live and free online, the day promises to offer an unprecedented glimpse into life behind the scenes with ten hours of uninterrupted activity, including live rehearsals, interviews and insights, all from the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
Highlights will include glimpses of working rehearsals of Harrison Birtwistle's gripping modern classic, The Minotaur, with the great John Tomlinson in the title role (pictured). We will also see a rehearsal of Kaspar Holten's new production of Tchaikovsky's poignant and bittersweet Eugene Onegin, a chance to watch the Chorus of the Royal Opera House rehearse the 'Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves' from Verdi's Nabucco, and an opportunity to see a preview of the models, sets and costume designs for the new production of Rossini's La donna del lago, inspired by Sir Walter Scott's thrilling poem The Lady of the Lake.
There will be live interviews with Kasper Holten, Director of Opera as well as Anthony Pappano, Music Director, and insights into the working lives of some of their Jette Parker Young Artists. There will be much much more.
Settle down in the evening to experience Act III of Wagner's Die Walküre, recorded earlier this season with 21 cameras and starring Bryn Terfel as Wotan (pictured). Watch live via the Royal Opera House website.
