The final performance of a tour could be expected to provide something light and popular for the audience. With three Wagner operas in the repertoire, the orchestra and chorus might look forward to a work they could almost perform in their sleep. On this occasion, the advertised and unusual treat was the assumption of the role of Arline by Zélie de Lussan - she had sung it for her operatic debut, but didn't do it often now that she was an established star.

The cast is taken from that for the performance on Saturday 24 November in a programme in the Mitchell Library.
