Diarmid was the keenly awaited successor to Jeanie Deans, and MacCunn's musical abilities were widely thought to have matured. However the Wagnerian orchestration did sometimes drown the singers. The libretto was not universally liked, and the opera disappeared quite quickly.
Philip Brozel and Louise Kirkby Lunn both repeated the success in Edinburgh and Glasgow that they had enjoyed a few weeks earlier in London. Cecile Lorraine, taking over Marie Duma's role, also seems to have acquitted herself well.
A programme for 20 November is preserved in the Mitchell Library
