The fact that The Vicar of Bray was not a new piece seems to have largely escaped comment, but it had been very substantially revised, and it enjoyed a far greater success in this revival than had been the case on its first appearance in 1882. It ran in Glasgow and Edinburgh for a week each just as the London revival was coming to an end, but was quickly brought back for two further weeks in Glasgow and a successful excursion to Dundee.
Further tour dates (especially Aberdeen and Edinburgh in Autumn). to be confirmed.
Cast is as reviewed in Dundee newspapers, with differences where specified for the earlier run in Glasgow.
According to Glasgow advertising, the curtain-raiser in May was a new operetta called Captain Billy (words by Harry Greenbank, music by François Cellier). This commenced at 7.30, with the usual exception of an earlier start (7.00pm) on Saturday evening. It is not advertised as being played at the matinee.
Advertising in the autumn mentions a curtain-raiser called Quite an Adventure (words by Frank Desprez, music by Edward Solomon) again starting at 7.30 (7.00 on Saturday). This was a popular piece which had already been revived several times.
