Charles Bernard spent several years managing companies that toured the provinces with a popular repertoire of French operettas. At this stage, when he was in partnership with another manager, Redmond Barrett, his name was less prominently displayed than in later years. Concurrently with this company, they managed a second troupe on tour in Planquette's hugely successful Cloches de Corneville.
La Petite Mademoiselle had the benefit of an original French libretto by the classic combination of Meilhac and Halévy. However it was not as successful as their best work for Offenbach or Bizet, Nor did it equal Lecocq's earlier success with Madame Angot. This seems to have been its only tour.
F H Celli had already spent several years as a leading baritone with Carl Rosa, and would soon rejoin them, along with Wilfred Esmond.
Cast details are from The Comet in the Lamb Collection 253 (5) in Dundee City Library.
