It seems only to have been in the reign of Patti that prima donnas usurped the role of Zerlina. Here it was clearly Donna Anna who was seen as of primary importance. Haydn Corri seems, even in his youth, to have been as adept at character parts as in the lyrical baritone roles of Bellini and Verdi.
