This charming little comedy, billed as The Swiss Cottage, was used as an afterpiece following a range of longer works - the serious (La Favorita), semi-serious (La Sonnambula) and the outright comical (Fra Diavolo).
It remained in the repertoire of touring companies for a number of seasons. However in order to fit the time available for its performance, it seems likely that the work must have been played in a seriously abbreviated form, which may explain its disappearance from the repertoire outside France.
