Grand Concert 1848Madame Grisi & Signor Mario

Read more about the opera Grand Concert

At this period, the husband-and-wife team of Mario and Grisi were at the height of their powers, and leading stars in the operatic world.  While it would not have been surprising for them to give a concert in Edinburgh or Glasgow, for them to travel further north to Perth at this time is quite unusual.

Tagliafico may not have been on their exalted level, but was still a notable performer at Covent Garden and elsewhere.

Julius Benedict, though not yet knighted, had lived in London since 1835 where he worked as a conductor at Drury Lane.  He would soon establish himself as a dominant figure on the London musical scene.

Further Scottish dates and programme to be established.
