There was a time when this biblical epic threatened to rival Carmen and Faust in popularity among French operas. Since that peak early last centiry it has rather faded, though it can still be highly effective when played with conviction.
The Society still showed up in healthy numbers - the chorus totalled 65 adults, 40 women and 25 men. In addition there were a dozen young men from the Glasgow Youth Choir, four boys and seven extras. Quite how they all fitted on the stage of the King's must be left to the imagination.
