For its second production, following the success of Orfeo, Edinburgh University Opera Club continued with the performance of baroque rarities. This time the choice fell on Handel. His operas were only just beginning to be performed in Scotland. It is an excellent work, and quite light-hearted in tone, but it had already been seen at Ledlanet as recently as 1965. Mind you, a third run was then delayed until 2017 - but there have been so many wonderful works from this source to explore in the meantime.
Note the presence in the cast of the young Scottish soprano Margaret Marshall, several years before her spectacular international career took off.
