Favorite 1873Her Majesty's Italian Opera

Read more about the opera Favorite

The sloppily-produced Italian edition in general use until very recently has long been considered to do the opera few favours. For most of its history, the title role has been taken by mezzo-sopranos, and a feature of this cast is that a great dramatic soprano plays the role. As a Parisian grand opéra, La Favorite did, of course, have a ballet sequence, and here the dancers were again led by Blanche Ricois.
