Twenty years since its first visit to Scotland, the O'Mara company, by the thirties no longer so 'Grand' as its brand name suggested, was touring to smaller venues, playing a popular repertoire in the style of variety theatre (i.e. twice nightly).
The company included two Carl Rosa veterans. Ina Hill, who had sung major roles before the war, and John Perry, who had successfully partnered Eva Turner back in the twenties, led the performers in a range of works.
The unashamedly popular repertoire was Il trovatore (Monday); Faust (Tuesday); The Bohemian Girl (Wednesday); Madam Butterfly (Thursday); The Marriage of Figaro (Friday); Maritana (Saturday matinee) and The Lily of Killarney (Saturday evening).
