Professor Heath Lees: The Music of Wagner's Ring and life cycle of an audience.
As usual, all are welcome to this talk, whether members of the Society or not. Held at the Edinburgh Society of Musicians, 3 Belford Road, Edinburgh, it will last from 7.30 to about 9.30. There is time for refreshments and friendly discussion. A charge (£7, non-members £10) is made to cover room and equipment rental.
Heath Lees is Emeritus Professor of Music at the University of Auckland and a renowned musicologist, A Scottish New Zealander, he is to give us a reduced version of his four pre-performance talks for the Melbourne Ring cycle. Highly recommended, this virtuoso performance is to be illustrated at the piano and with video.
This is the last summer that Heath will be in Europe before he returns to New Zealand.
At the end of the talk, his set of four DVDs will be on sale. Called 'Wagner's Ring: A Tale Told in Music', it is priced at £50 (cash or card).
