Cav & Pag were among the most popular operas in the repertoire, hot on the heels of Faust, Carmen and Il trovatore.
In this cast, the tenor Ben Williams sang Turiddu followed by the more dramatic-voiced Canio in the same bill, an unusual task. The previous evening he had sung the lighter, sweet-toned role of Ernesto in Don Pasquale.
Cast details are from a programme in the Mitchell Library collection.
