With this performance of Canio, tenor Ben Williams completed a daunting sequence of performances of increasing power. Starting on Friday he had sung the sweet-toned and lyrical music of Ernesto in Don Pasquale. At the Saturday matinee he presented the more forceful part of Turiddu, before finishing up as Canio. Flintoff Moore also worked hard, having already sung Alfio before taking on Tonio.
