Tales of Hoffmann 1911Quinlan Opera Company

Read more about the opera Tales of Hoffmann

The Tales of Hoffmann was little-known at this stage. The edition is now seen as a corrupt one, playing the acts in the wrong order, with Antonia after Giulietta. The heroines were played by different sopranos, and the villains and character tenors were also divided between different singers. Despite this, the work quickly became very popular - not just being played by Quinlan, but also being taken up by Carl Rosa.

The cast is from a programme for the 16 December matinee in the National Library of Scotland.
