Phoenix Opera toured for a number of years, visiting the middle-range theatres ignored by the major English touring companies. This appears to be their only visit to Scotland, though, as their Arts Council grant was axed at the end of 1974, there was little scope for any return visits. This staging of The Beggar's Opera worked quite well in Perth Theatre, with a band of eight musicians accompanying the singers, and was a useful addition to the Festival schedules.
