Nabucco 1967Haddo House Choral & Operatic Society

Read more about the opera Nabucco

Nabucco has only rarely appeared on the professional stage in Scotland. However it has always been a popular favourite with amateur groups, and this was the first production of the work by what was still called simply the Haddo House Choral Society. The cast is taken from a programme. Otherwise little is known about this production.

However, the choir's future commitments in this particular season were quite challenging. Only a month away, on 14 May, lay a performance of the Bach B Minor Mass, in which June Gordon was scheduled to conduct the Jacques Orchestra with an illustrious quartet of soloists - April Cantelo, Janet Baker, Gerald English and John Carol Case.

The following March 3 they were scheduled to combine with the forces of Aberdeen University in a performance in the Music Hall of Tippett's A Child of Our Time. The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, with soloists Elizabeth Vaughan, Pamela Bowden, Ronald Dowd and Forbes Robinson, would be conducted by the composer.
