It seems surprising that Donizetti's wonderfully good-natured comedy had not featured in the Haddo repertoire before.
With Tim Dean up from Glasgow to take charge of the music, things went well from the start. Ian Paton seemed such ideal casting as Nemorino that it seemed odd that it wasn't one of his signature roles. Apart from young Monica McGhee, the other principals were promising performers from the Pacific rim.
