It was unusual for the Haddo musicians to play away from home, but their first performances of Menotti's charming Christmas opera made a sensible work for them to take in to Aberdeen. The staging was deliberately made as simple as possible, with no sets or elaborate lighting. The attractive orchestral score was arranged for two pianos, and they were played by Donald Hawksworth himself, and Eric Reid.
