OperaScotland rarely highlights non-operatic performances, but this Edinburgh Series seems in such a good cause that we're making an exception. Post-graduate students from the Royal Scottiah Conservatoire have added so much to Scotland's musical life in recent times that we welcome the chance to showcase these evenings aimed at raising money for their scholarship fund.
Students of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland are returning for three more wonderful concerts with talent from various disciplines across the Conservatoire. The concerts are held in the intimate surroundings of the Club Room and Library of the Scottish Arts Club, 24 Rutland Square, Edinburgh, EH1 2BW.
Tuesday 27 January - Schumann, Schubert and Strauss: celebrating the 150th anniversary of Richard Strauss' birth with a selection from his rich and varied song repertoire. Preceded by Schumann's depiction of a young woman's journey through life, Frauenliebe und leben and rounded off with Schubert's poetic and exhilarating Shepherd on the Rock for soprano, piano and clarinet.
Tuesday 24 March – Songs, Sonnets and Soliloquys: drama and music Masters students celebrate the legacy and genius and Shakespeare with songs by Gerald Finzi and scenes from King Lear and Measure for Measure.
Tuesday 19 May – A Taste of Russia: songs by Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Prokofiev with cello music by Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov.
The evenings will start with a pre-concert reception at 7.00pm, the concerts starting at 7.30pm. They will run, without an interval, for around 70 minutes and will be followed by a two course supper, wine and coffee. The performers join guests for supper. Special dietary requirements can be accommodated.
Tickets for the Edinburgh Series 2014 at the Scottish Arts Club are £60.00 each. Tickets can be booked at any time during the series. However, if you choose to book for all three in the series the cost will be £160.00.
All profits from the Edinburgh Series will go directly to the Royal Conservatoire’s Scholarship Fund.
