The spring 2016 tour by Ellen Kent's troupe, presented by Opera and Ballet International, brought back three familiar operas in repertoire - Carmen, Tosca and Die Fledermaus. The Strauss operetta was only scheduled for one Scottish venue, the Edinburgh Playhouse.
Ellen Kent’s Die Fledermaus was first seen in 2006. This version includes two champagne fountains, two bats, a mystery guest and an introduction of some scenes from the Russian Die Fledermaus which are unique to this production. Die Fledermaus was sung in an English translation by Ellen Kent.
Strauss’s light-hearted opera set in late 19th century Vienna combines a cast of colourful characters with some of opera’s most popular musical moments in a story of love, laughter and sweet revenge.
Sung in English with English surtitles.
Cast details to be confirmed.
