For its first staging of Il trovatore, Tayside Opera, anticipating its popularity, scheduled six performances on successive nights. This placed tremendous demands on the four lead principals, though only the part of Manrico was double cast. The Leonora, Azucena and Luna must have found it a very demanding week. The performances also started strongly, with experienced performers taking the shorter roles of Ferrando and Inez.
