The first half of this concert by the European Union Youth Orchestra has an enticing range of arias and duets from two rare Verdi operas. Luisa Miller and I masnadieri have not been performed in Scotland since the visit of Covent Garden to the Festival twenty years or so ago. The soprano Diana Damrau is now a major star performing regularly at the Met. Baritone Nicolas Testé is also a noted performer unknown here. The conductor, Gianandrea Noseda, led the enjoyable William Tell last year.
The main item on the programme, by the way, seems on the face of it a rather incongruous match - Mahler's Fifth Symphony.
Note the 7.30 start time, by the way!
