The Locked Door, a new chamber opera by Gemma McGregor, is based on real events that took place in Sussex during World War II. Composer Ralph Vaughan Williams is at home with his wife, Adeline, when an air raid starts and an unexpected visitor arrives. Ralph must go to carry out his war-time duties as fire -watcher, leaving Adeline with the much younger woman who loves Vaughan Williams and has broken social etiquette by coming to the marital home.
